Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Foundation for Independent Research & Education Issues Committee, Sponsored by Independent Voter PAC (“FIRE PAC,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a California state political action committee (FPPC ID #1364677), collects, uses, and shares information when you visit issuesfirepac.org (the “Site”), contribute to FIRE PAC, contact us, or opt in to receive text messages from us.
Scope
This policy applies only to the Site and to information FIRE PAC collects directly. It does not apply to other websites, including websites linked from the Site, or to companies FIRE PAC does not control. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of every website you visit.
Information we collect
Information you provide
You do not need to provide any personal information to view the Site. When you contribute, contact us, or sign up for updates, we may collect:
- Your name or committee name
- Physical street address and mailing address
- Email address and phone number, including mobile number
- Occupation and employer, if you contribute as an individual
- The full legal name of the responsible officer, if you contribute on behalf of an LLC
- Contribution amount and date
- Any correspondence you send us
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, our hosting and security providers may automatically collect standard technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. This information is used to operate, secure, and improve the Site.
Contributor information and public disclosure
California’s Political Reform Act requires FIRE PAC to collect certain information about contributors and to report it to the Fair Political Practices Commission and the California Secretary of State. For contributors who give $100 or more in total, this includes name, street address, occupation, employer, contribution amount, and date. This information becomes part of the public record and may be viewed by anyone. We keep contribution records for at least as long as the law requires.
How we use information
- To process, record, and report contributions as required by law
- To respond to your questions and requests
- To send you updates about the policy issues and initiatives FIRE PAC supports, if you have asked to receive them
- To send text messages, only if you have opted in (see “Text messaging” below)
- To operate, maintain, and secure the Site
- To comply with legal obligations, prevent fraud, and protect our rights and the rights of others
Text messaging
If you opt in, FIRE PAC may send you recurring text messages about policy issues, initiatives, events, and ways to get involved. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of making a contribution.
- Message frequency varies.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply “STOP” to any message to unsubscribe. You may also opt out by any other reasonable means, such as replying “Quit,” “End,” “Cancel,” or “Unsubscribe,” or emailing info@issuesfirepac.org. After you opt out, you may receive one final message confirming your request.
- Reply “HELP” for help, or contact info@issuesfirepac.org.
- Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Text Messaging Opt-In Data: We will not share or sell your text messaging opt-in data, consent, or related personal information with any third parties, unless required by law.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:
- Government agencies: contributor information reported to the Fair Political Practices Commission, the California Secretary of State, and other agencies as required by law.
- Service providers: vendors that help us operate, such as website hosting, email, and accounting. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
- Legal requirements: when required to respond to a subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FIRE PAC, our supporters, or others.
- With your consent: for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time you provide the information.
The text messaging commitments above apply to every category of sharing listed in this section.
Cookies and tracking
The Site does not use advertising cookies or allow third parties to collect information about your activity across other websites. Our hosting and security providers may use essential cookies or similar technologies needed to deliver and protect the Site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Do Not Track: because the Site does not track visitors across third-party websites, we do not change our practices in response to browser Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals.
Your choices
- Email: follow the unsubscribe link in any email, or email us.
- Text messages: reply STOP or use any method described above.
- Review or correct your information: email info@issuesfirepac.org to review or update the information we hold about you. Information already reported in public campaign finance filings cannot be removed from the public record, but we can file amendments to correct errors.
California privacy rights
FIRE PAC is a political committee, not a business as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We nevertheless follow the practices in this policy for all visitors. California residents may request information about our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes under California Civil Code Section 1798.83. We do not make such disclosures. Send requests to info@issuesfirepac.org.
Security and retention
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy or as required by law, including campaign finance recordkeeping requirements.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Visitors outside the United States
FIRE PAC is located in the United States. Information you provide is processed in the United States and is subject to U.S. law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the effective date above. If we make material changes, we will post a prominent notice on the Site.
